The first moment

Dr. Rosita Arvigo and I in 2005

17 years ago, I was in the commencement of my self love/healing/bodyworker journey. I was on a new friend’s massage table receiving a session from her in her basement. As soon as she put her hands on my body, she said she had a deep inner knowing that I need to know about a treatment that she had just experienced. Mayan abdominal therapy came into my life in that instant. I got warm chills all over my body when she spoke of this ancient treatment that focuses on women’s health, spirituality, and herbalism. I signed up for my first training the next day.

As I drove to the Berkshires towards this beautiful chapter of my life there was a beaming rainbow spanning across the entire view before me. It was the first of many that would bless every seminar in the years to come.

An atypical, constructed dodecahedron was to be my safe container for the next four days. Fresh vegetables from the backyard gardens supported my cells as they were fed transmissions from a wise healer and the collective healing of a group of women ready and willing to heal aspects of themselves.

I will never forget the moment Dr Arvigo put her deep listening hands on my core. No one has ever contacted me in that way before. They felt like they removed an invisible dam that was holding stories, pain, information and was now melting. What flowed was a “knowing” that I was certainly in the right place at the right time. More than that, I was more of me already in that short session and the beauty that I recognized that is even more valuable. Tears and sounds were released almost immediately with the laying on of her strong hands.

The weekend was a bouquet of self-care tools, sisterhood, oral tradition and blending. Watching Rosita across the fire on that last night as she slowly, casually, and so lovingly shared the song with us ignited a remembrance. This feeling did not make its full presence known yet- that clarity will come over the next dozen years. Yet, in that moment, I knew and was ecstatic about the fact that I had found a mentor that shines. I just started something very important, and I was going to follow these feelings and deep nods of yes.
